MESOP MIDEAST WATCH: German Parliament to Recognize Crimes Committed Against Yazidis as Genocide / KURDISTAN IRAK
14-1-23 – BASNEWS ERBIL — The lower house of the German parliament is due to meet this week to recognize the genocide of the Yazidi community at the hands of the Islamic State (ISIS) jihadists, according to a report by AFP.
The motion is proposed by Germany’s ruling coalition and conservative lawmakers. The German parliament Bundestag “recognises the crimes against the Yazidi community as genocide, following the legal evaluations of investigators from the United Nations,” according to the motion seen by AFP.
The German parliament is set to meet Thursday to vote on this motion.
Yazidis are a Kurdish-speaking community concentrated in Sinjar, which fell to ISIS in August 2014. The Yazidi minority was severely persecuted, and subjected to extreme violence and ill-treatment. ISIS jihadists kidnapped and forced hundreds of Yazidi women into sexual slavery.
