Meanwhile, as leaks abound on the purported state of talks in Doha and Cairo, Israel’s military campaign in Gaza continues unabated. Health officials in the Hamas-run enclave said that at least 40 people were killed in the early hours of Thursday morning by an Israeli strike on a UN school facility in central Gaza, including children.

Gazan authorities said the school was being used by displaced Palestinians, while the Israel Defense Forces said it had targeted “a Hamas compound embedded inside an UNRWA school” and killed dozens of Hamas and Islamic Jihad fighters. Notably, the IDF said in a statement that “many steps were taken before the strike to minimize the risk of harm to uninvolved people,” acknowledging that it knew the site was a dwelling for displaced people.
