MESOP KURDISTAN / SYRIA NEWS ON THE HOUR : ISIS senior commander killed during clashes near Kobane

May 22, 2015 – ARA News – Urfa, Turkey – On Thursday, the joint forces (the People’s Protection Units “YPG” and Burkan al-Furat rebels) were able to kill a senior leader in the ranks of the radical group of the Islamic State (IS/ISIS/ISIL) during clashes in the southern countryside of Kobane, northern Syria. Speaking to ARA News on the phone, Noureddin Kaban, fighter in the YPG’s ranks, confirmed that the joint forces killed the IS senior leader Abu Jabel Ansari along with several other militants accompanying him on Thursday.

The battles which erupted Wednesday in the southern front of Kobane are ongoing.The source pointed out that IS’ recent offensive has been deterred in the villages of Qal Hadid, Zarik, and Nour Ali, where IS insurgents have fled from the vicinity of these villages, leaving behind the corpses of their militants. In the meantime, the YPG’s Media Centre issued an official statement, of which ARA News received a copy, saying that their forces were able to kill 23 terrorists south of Kobane, including a senior leader (Abu Jabel Ansari), beside destroying an armored manned-vehicle in the vicinity of the village of Bir Arab in the eastern countryside.
