MESOP : KIRKUK GOES NORTH – Kirkuk Governor: We May Consider Forming Autonomous Region / Ministries cannot fulfil their duties, the Najmaddin Karim says

Basnews – 27.04.2015 – KIRKUK – The governor of Kirkuk Province in northern Iraq has asked the central government to distribute decentralised authority among the governorates and provide more services to the people of Kirkuk.

The Kirkuk Provincial Council on Monday April 27th released a statement demanding Baghdad apply a decentralised management system throughout the country and authorise direct rule in provinces. “The central government should provide enough funds to Kirkuk to continue services and projects in the province,” read the statement. Kirkuk Governor Najmaddin Karim has previously said, “We want Baghdad to transfer part of its authority to the governorates because the ministries cannot fulfil their duties properly.“Baghdad must apply a decentralised system in Iraq; otherwise the provinces will consider the formation of autonomous regions.” Karim also said that they are moving refugees and displaced people from camps to other complexes with proper services. T he oil-rich province is located in the north of Iraq with a diverse population comprising of Kurds, Arabs, Turkmen, Assyrians and Christians.
