MESOP Iran Daily: Tehran Talks Tough as Final Nuclear Text Drafted in Vienna

By Scott Lucas June 6, 2015 07:31 Updated – eaworldview – Senior Iranian political and military officials, including Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, struck tough public postures on Friday as Iran and the 5+1 Powers continued drafting of a comprehensive nuclear agreement. Speaking on Russian television, Zarif warned against any attempts to alter the April 2 framework of the deal: “All parties must understand that we can reach an agreement only in the framework of these solutions. Any attempts to revise the agreement will lead to failure.”Zarif said the 5+1 (US, Britain, France, Russia, China, and Germany) should show political will to complete the agreement.

The two sides are currently in the sixth round of talks since the framework was agreed, drafting the final text in Vienna.

The deputy head of Iran’s armed forces, General Massoud Jazayeri, restated Tehran’s public line that it will not allow any inspection of military sites.

“We will never allow any kind of visit to military centers, whether it is limited and controlled, or unlimited or in any other form,” Jazayeri said. The general asserted that the Iranian nation will “never give in to the excessive demands being made by arrogant powers”.Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had indicated this week that there might be a compromise, allowing International Atomic Energy Agency inspections of some but not all of the military sites.
