Peshmerga Train in Ukraine for Mosul Operation / Training focuses on urban warfare
Basnews | Hoshmand Sadiq – 25.04.2015 16:01 – ERBIL – A number of Kurdish Peshmerga has taken part in an urban warfare course in Ukraine, using a variety of weapons.A Peshmerga commander who participated in the training course and wished to remain anonymous told BasNews, “More than 70 Peshmerga officers have received practical courses on urban warfare and were trained on utilising several sorts of weapons.”
He continued, “The course lasted 25 days during March and aimed to prepare the Peshmerga to take part in the Mosul operation.”The Peshmerga commander revealed that the course centred on urban warfare, defusing mines and explosive devices, using a newly developed French DShK [Doshka] and military tactics. Islamic State (IS) militants seized Mosul in northern Iraq on 10th June 2014, and thousands of people fled their brutality. And while a plan to liberate Mosul has agreed, the operation schedule is yet to be revealed. Erbil and Baghdad have been negotiating about Peshmerga forces taking part in the operation to liberate Mosul, but Kurdish officials have not confirmed Peshmerga participation.
