25/05/2013 : PUK MEDIA – The European Parliament has agreed to provide a seat to be held by a Kurd to represent the Kurdish people.
The parliament asked that someone from Halabja to represent the Kurdish people. The head of Halabja Municipality Khdir Kareem told PUKmedia that he would be the first Kurdish candidate to hold the seat in the European Parliament, adding that, “it is not a parliamentary seat but one in the Administrative Committee.” “I had met with EP Administrative Committee General Secretary in Rome on 29 April […] I asked for a seat in European Parliament for Kurdish people especially someone form Halabja,” said Kareem. “Fortunately, the parliament has agreed to that proposal,” he said, “I am, now, waiting for a written formal letter from EP and I will go to Brussels to undertake the position.”
