MESOP : …… and the winner is Iran – We received weapons from Iran, US failed to meet promises to Kurds: Masrour Barzani

 2 Feb 2015 – Kurdpress – The Kurdistan Region Security Service Chief Masrour Barzani blamed the US for failing to meet the promises ot made to Kurds, confirming that Iran has sent weapons to the Kurds in northern Iraq that are fighting the militants of the Islamic State (IS).

He told Bloomberg that lack of weapons in the main problem Kurds in Iraq are facing as they are at war with the IS and revealed that his forces have only received four cargos of weapons although they need more. He went on to say that the Iraqi central government in Baghdad has not sent yet the money agreed upon in an Erbil-Baghdad accord. The US has trained Iraqi army forces for ten years and has spent a large amount of money arming them, but the army was destroyed in 10 hours, blaming angrily White House for sending 250 anti-mine armored vehicle to Baghdad but 25 vehicles to the Kurdish region. He went on to say that the Kurdish forces of Peshmerga are carrying 90 percents of the responsibility to fight and defeat the militants of the Islamic State but are receiving 10 percents of the weapons and ammunitions. Barzani also accused the US of deciding what weapons should go to Kurds and what not, claiming that the issue is more political than technical as “1000 Hamvis and 150 Abram tanks were sent to Iraq but not even one of them for Kurds.” Son to Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani, Masrour Barzani confirmed that the Kurdish region has received weapons from Iran. He ultimately said Kurds deserve to receive more weapons and ammunition as they have lost lives and are fighting the extremist group on behalf of the world and need weapons to save the lives.
