Barzani and Abadi Meet to Discuss Mosul Operation – President Barzani expected to meet with German Chancellor Angela Merkel later on Saturday

Basnews | Armanj AgidNerwayee – 07.02.2015 – MUNICH – The Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani met with Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi during the Munich Security Conference on Saturday, where they discussed the operation to free Mosul. Afterwards, Barzani told reporters that the meeting had been positive. Abadi explained that they talked about the operation to free Mosul, fighting Islamic State and supporting Peshmerga forces and Iraqi oil issues.

It was the first meeting between the two since Abadi became Iraq’s Prime Minister. They were joined by Iraqi Finance Minister Hoshyar Zebari, Iraqi Interior Minister Mohammed Salim al-Ghaban, KRG Peshmerga Minister Mustafa Sayid Qadir, Fuad Hussein the Chief of Staff of Kurdistan Region, Falah Mustafa the Head of the KRG Foreign Relations Office and Hemin Hawrami, head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP)’s Foreign Relations Office. President Barzani is expected to meet German Chancellor Angela Merkel later on Saturday, to discuss further German military support for the Peshmerga.
