MENA WATCH NEWS Turkey’s CHP Delegation meets with Top Kurdish Leaders

6.9.2021 ERBIL — Kurdish prominent leader and President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), Masoud Barzani, on Sunday received a delegation from Turkey’s opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) led by Deputy Head Oguz Kaan Salıc, a statement said.

During their meeting, Salıc delivered greetings from the head of the CHP to Barzani, touching on the historical internal changes in Turkey, and stressed that democracy is a factor for the progress and prosperity of the region, Barzani Headquarters said in a statement.

The Turkish delegation also highlighted the need for friendship to achieve justice and progress, stressing the importance and impact of the Kurdistan Region in the region and Iraq, expressing his hope to deepen and expand the relations between the two sides.

In return, Barzani warmly welcomed the Turkish delegation and pointed out that preserving coexistence and peace among the different components in the region can ensure their destiny, stressing the need for all parties to benefit from “the experiences and mistakes” of the past and to be dedicated to serving peace and coexistence among peoples.

The two sides also exchanged views on the latest political developments in the region, including the Iraqi upcoming parliamentary elections, the statement said.

The CHP delegation also met with Prime Minister Masrour Barzani in Erbil where Salıc noted that the delegation’s visit to the Kurdistan Region is aimed at “fostering ties” between the autonomous region and Turkey as well as explaining the Turkish opposition party’s “outlook on a number of mutually important subjects.”

This was the first official visit by a delegation of the Turkish opposition party’s leadership to the Kurdistan Region.
