PUK and KDP row over region’s US office

Erbil- HAWLATI / MESOP – 17.3.2013 – The two ruling Parties of Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) are reportedly at odds over appointing the northern autonomous region’s representative to its US office Hawlati, website said.

The KDP is against re-appointing Qubad Talabani, PUK member and the son of its leader Iraqi president Jalal Talabani, to head the office, but PUK says the Post is its and would not negotiate over it. Meanwhile opposition Parties are against appointing KDP and PUK officials for the post since they believe the appointees are not people’s representative and have been chosen through nepotism. KDP and PUK deputies respectively represent 9 and 5 offices of the region in other countries.
