‘Maliki wants to take Kurdistan back to pre-1991’ – Barham Salih
KURDISTAN TRIBUNE – 20.11.2012 – Iraq prime minister Nuri Maliki wants to take Kurdistan back to the situation pre-1991, Barham Salih said today, referring to the dark period when Kurds in Iraq lacked autonomy and were at the mercy of Saddam Hussein.
The former Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) prime minister and current deputy secretary of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) made this claim in an interview with the Al Arabiya newspaper. “In 2003 we tried to build a new Iraq”, he said, “but the Dijla operation takes us back to before 1991”.
