LOOK AT KURDISTAN ON A MAP IN 1072 (!) / WATCH PICTURE

Nearly 940 years ago, a Turkish scholar from eastern Central Asia by the name of Mahmud Kashghari drew a world map to be included in a book that he was writing in Baghdad for the Caliph. Apparently, this is the oldest surviving map that clearly displays Kurdistan as Ardh al-Akrad, or ‘Land of the Kurds’.
