Kurdistan Region forces on high alert in ISIS threat

8.2.2014 – Kurdpress – The military, security and police forces of Kurdistan Region are on high alert to counter any attacks from the extremist group of the Islamic State of Iraq and Sham (ISIS), Radio Nawkho said.

A high- ranking commander of the region’s police Abdullah Muhammad Khailani stated police, security (Asayesh) and military (Peshmarga) forces are on alert to counter the ISIS attacks and possible attempts of the groups to infiltrate into the region. Meanwhile, Peshmarga Secretary General, Jabar Yawar, announced the Kurdish military forces are ready to fight the ISIS. The remarks by the Kurdish officials came as reactions to a recent ISIS video file where one leader of the jihadist group warned to attack the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), two former ruling parties of the self-ruling enclave. It is worth mentioning that US Deputy Secretary of State Breit MacCrek told the congress on Friday that Kurdistan region is one of the main targets of the extremist group.
