KNK CONFERENCE BRUSSELS : Barzani asks for Ocalan’s release, unity among Syrian Kurds

TO MANAGE A REAL PEACE PROCESS ONE MUST BE FREE

26.5.2013 – KURDPRESS – In a message to the Kurds’ National Council, in Brussels, the president of Kurdistan Region, Massoud Barzani, demanded the release of Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) jailed leader Abdullah Ocalan and unity among Syrian Kurds.

“The ending to clashes in Turkey is a significant attempt to stabilize peace and security in the country and the release of Mr. Abdullah Ocalan should be considered as a part of the political process,” Barzani said in a message to the two-day conference, attended by most of Kurdish parties.

He further asked for unity among Kurds, but warned of resorting to violence. “The 20th centure was a torture and painful period for the Kurds, but the 21st century is an end to the Kurds’ denial and a start to achieve democratic, human demands. The Kurds should start asking for their demands but should avoid from resorting to violence. All Kurdish parties should be united,” said the message, read out by Himen Hawrami.  The president of the self- ruling region further asked the Syria Kurds to stay committed to Erbil agreement, stating that any fights among the Kurdish parties in the country “is real enmity to the Kurds.”
