Iraqi FM asks Turkey to talk to PKK directly

7.10.2013 – Al Watan – Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari asked the Turkey government to hold direct talks with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) to make progress in its peace talks with the party, Watan daily said in a report.

The peace talks will succeed only if direct negotiation is held between the two sides, Ankara officials should therefore not waste time and hold direct talk with the PKK as soon as possible, Zebari said, stressing that his country can play a mediating role in the talks. Zebari further demanded Turkey should ratify new articles and change the some articles of the constitution to meet the demands of its Kurds. He also revealed has held a fruitful meeting with Turkey President Abdullah Gul in Ankara to settle disputes between the two neighboring countries.
