Iran sentences a Kurdish political activist to three executions
Bestun Kakayi – BasNews, Iran – 25-1-2014 – Iranian authorities have sentenced Kurdish political activist Murtazzah Rahimi to three executions.
According to sources from the Kurdish Iranian city of Kermanshah, Rahimi was accused of being a member of one of the Kurdish Iranian opposition parties. Last week also saw the execution by hanging of seven Kurds accused of drug trafficking in the Kurdish Iranian city of Baneh, on the border with Iraqi Kurdistan. Iranian authorities revealed that the men had sold over 100kg of drugs and murdered two people. They were executed in a public hanging in the city centre. Iran has the second highest rate of executions in the world, after China, with more than 100 people executed annually, the majority being Kurds.
