Eyes on Ankara for HDK & HDP Congresses

ANF – Ankara 16.10.2013 – Turkish capital Ankara will host two important congresses at the last weekend of October, that of People’s Democratic Congress (HDK) at Kocatepe Cultural Center on 26 October and that of People’s Democratic Party (HDP) on the 27th.

The People’s Democratic Congress (HDK) congress will see participation by delegates determined by provincial councils as well as HDK member deputies and mayors, with 50 percent quota allocated for women. The congress will mainly handle the “level, problems and development strategy of organisation”.

The congress of the People’s Democratic Party (HDP), which was founded with 75 members on 15 October 2012, will take place at the Ahmet Taner Kışlalı sports hall on 27 October. The party has fulfilled all legal requirements for the approaching elections. A large number of people are expected to attend the HDP congress which will be held under the motto “This is yet the beginning” and with the spirit of 21 March Newroz in Diyarbakır and June resistance of this year. HDP will give the message “We are ready for elections” as the single democratic opposition center in the country.

The HDP congress will also witness the election of co-chairs to represent the party at local and general elections.Istanbul deputies Sebahat Tuncel and Sırrı Süreyya Önder, Mersin deputy Ertuğrul Kürkçü and independent deputy Leven Tüzel are among the names to take place in the party in the coming term. Following the congress, the party will announce its candidates for the western side of the country and kick off election campaign.
