EUTCC SALUTES THE KURDISH PEOPLE ON NEWROZ 2013
Newroz is the traditional Kurdish festival of light and hope. It is a celebration of the coming spring unfolding after the long winter and symbolises the victory over dark oppressive forces. This year’s celebration epitomises the more the historical narrative of Newroz more than ever.
The ongoing talks between the Turkish government and Mr. Abdullah Öcalan signal a new beginning and a brighter future for the Kurdish people and for Turkey as such. It became clear from Mr. Öcalan’s historic letter, which was read aloud at the Newroz celebration in Diyarbakir by the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) deputy Pervin Buldan and Sırrı Süreyya Önder in Kurdish and Turkish. The letter indicates that the hope and call for peace by millions of Kurdish voices are finally heard and acted upon.
The EUTCC strongly supports the new policy of dialogue, peace and democratization that are currently going on in Imrali, in the government, in the mountains, and in the streets. With joint forces which include the Turkish government, the Kurdish people and the international community, and with an overarching and genuine will for peace, there will be light at the end of the tunnel – even if there are obstacles ahead.
NEWROZ PIROZ BE!
