ISIS & das Assad Regime / ISIA AND THE ASSAD REGIME
von Thomas von der Osten-Sacken / jungle world – 14.4.2014 – Seit Wochen versuchen Milizen des Islamischen Staates im Irak und der Levante (ISIS) die von der kurdischen PYD kontrollierten Kantone im Norden Syriens zu erobern. Bislang ist ihnen dies nicht gelungen, kurdische Kämpfer leisten erbitterten Widerstand und fügen ISIS dabei hohe Verluste zu. Inzwischen wird immer klarer, dass die Jihadisten von ISIL auch über Territorien angreifen, die von der syrischen Armee kontrolliert werden.
Dazu erklärt ein Offizier der kurdischen Miliz YPG:
As you know there have been fierce clashes between the Kurdish People’s Defense Units (YPG) and ISIS gangs. Their purpose is to occupy the Kobane Canton and putting an end to the freedom Kurdish people are enjoying in Rojava. They wanted to include Kobane into their Islamic state. That is why they launched broad attacks against Kobane from the east, west and south. They attack us with the support of the Assad regime, and also Turkey is turning a blind eye.

Documentation 01/14 – The “Islamic State in Iraq and al-Sham” (ISIS) has been engaged in an allout war against the Kurdish territories in Syria since March 2014.
After months of humiliating defeats by the forces of Syrian Kurdish militia YPG (Yekîneyên Parastina Gel) – at least 1.000 ISIS fighters (YPG claims 3.0001) had been killed since summer 2013 – ISIS recognized YPG and the Kurds as the main obstacle for their rule. YPG and the Kurds are a military and political threat to the Islamic Emirate emerging in Syria and Iraq. But this is not a conventional war between two armed forces. ISIS made public announcements calling the Kurds infidels and legitimating brutal terror against them.
