YPG: We not allow ISIS and Baath to be successfull against us
YPG: Time to get ready against the attacks Friday, 25 April 2014 15:41 hawarnews E-mail Print PDF NEWS DESK – General Command of YPG (People’s Defense Units) called on all citizens of Rojava to get ready to join the YPG Forces to defend Rojava. The YPG General Command released a statement on its website stating that: “After the Islamis State of Iraq and al-Sham has been defeated by the YPG Forces that took its support from people living in Rojava, the ISIS now tries to take the revenge by attacking civilians in the cities. The attacks in Zehir al-Arab village and the ones in Serêkaniyê (Ras al-Ayn) show that the ISIS does not have any concerns on moral issues in a war. We see that unity of all people living in Rojava and their support to the YPG do not let the ISIS to empose its policies and that is why the civilians are attacked. We appreciate the Kurdish parties and Arab leaders of Rojava for their support. We, once again, call on every individual to take their position in the YPG, Asayish (Rojava security forces) and YPJ (Women’s Defense Units) to defend Rojava against the attacks. As the YPG Forces, we will never allow the ISIS and Baath Regime Forces to be successfull against us and take the region from people in Rojava. To this end, all people especially the young generation should come and join the YPG. (lg) – ANHA – Posted by Wladimir van Wilgenburg

MESOP DOCU : Did the Killing of Abu Bassir Lead to the First Lattakia Offensive?
by Matthew Barber – Make sure to view this amazing video published by Vice News, entitled “Wolves of the Valley.” The video contains daring reporting by Aris Roussinos (@arisroussinos) who entered Idlib to bring us an interesting picture of the front-line in the conflict between ISIS and SRF fighters.
Vice’s posting of the video is here. Roussinos also has an article about the situation, published yesterday, here.
In the video, one of the leading SRF fighters gives “a message” to Muslims in the West emphasizing that they do not want new fighters to join them in Syria. He says they have enough men and don’t need more. They do discuss their need for weapons, however, and the video gives an interesting look at equipment and training materials provided to the fighters by the U.S. One of the men describes participating in a weapons training program in Turkey and Qatar. After completing the training, the men return to Syria and receive shipments of weapons. Only those who participate in the training receive weapons, the fighter claims, and he says that the weapons are for “fighting Da’ash” rather that for fighting the regime.
MESOP Syria Deeply: A Chemical Weapons Saga Reveals the State of Syria
28-4-2014 – Syria’s chemical weapons saga has been one of the dominant storylines of the conflict. Alongside the threat of jihad, it is the main reason Syria still registers on Western security radars. But the chemical weapons narrative itself is a microcosm of the complications and frustrations of Syria’s war. President Bashar al-Assad has been compliant enough in handing over his chemical weapons, doing his part in a U.S.-Russian-led deal to avert a U.S. military strike. The deal served as a face-saving maneuver for Assad; the U.S. intelligence chief said it strengthened his hand by eliminating the threat of a strike, and with it any prospect of accountability.
MESOP REPORT : Abdullah ibn Zubayr Battalions of Deir az-Zor Reject Fighting ISIS / CLICK PICTURES
By Aymenn Jawad Al-Tamimi – 26.4.2014 – Since the outbreak of the wider infighting between the Islamic State of Iraq and ash-Sham (ISIS) and other rebel groups, some factions have emerged with a definitive anti-fitna stance, insisting on neutrality. The latest case is the Abdullah ibn Zubayr Battalions of Deir az-Zor province, which is instead directing efforts to fighting regime forces in Deir az-Zor city. From a strategic perspective, this approach is offensive: the Jabhat al-Nusra et al. offensive on ISIS in al-Markadah and the ISIS incursions into Deir az-Zor province have so far been little more than a futile waste of manpower and weapons, as the overall stalemate shows. Below is my preliminary translation of their statement.

MESOP FOCUS : Has Assad infiltrated rebel forces inside Syria?
Channel 4 – UK – 27.4.2014 – Hundreds of foreigners could unknowingly be fighting for President Assad following reports of a deal struck between the regime and extremist group Isis. It is every jihadist’s worst nightmare: the prospect of fighting against the Assad regime in Syria, only to discover that you have done precisely what the Syrian president wants.
TODAY’S MESOP OPINION : What Would the Fall of Homs Mean?
Carnegie endowment : Aron Lund – April 24, 2014 – Syria’s army is closing in on Homs, Syria’s third-largest city—at least until much of it was destroyed in 2011, 2012, and 2013. The remaining rebel stronghold in the Old City of Homs has withstood nearly two years of army attacks and a crippling siege. If the Syrian government manages to capture the Old City, what would that mean for the conflict?
