THE ROJAVA REPORT (PYD) 2.5.20014 – QAMİŞLO- The Rojava Democratic Society Movement (TEV-DEM) has released a strongly worded statement in response to Neçirvan Barzani’s claim that TEV-DEM was working together with the Syrian regime. The statement rejected Barzani’s accusations, while condemning the KDP for its policy on Rojava.

Some have also articulated that, given this possible scenario, the moderate opposition should deal with it pragmatically. My response to those who contemplate this frightening scenario, however, is that continuing on this path is a curse that will ultimately afflict everyone.

The PYD claims that this measure solidifies the principle of partition imposed by the countries in order to divide Kurdistan, and shuts out the Syrian Kurds amid the difficult circumstances that they are currently undergoing. However, the PYD’s hostile reaction and propaganda is in fact doing more to undermine efforts for Kurdish unity than the digging of a trench.

Published on Thursday 1 May 2014. – Reporters without Borders – Reporters Without Borders is extremely concerned about the significant deterioration in freedom of information in areas controlled by the Democratic Union Party (PYD). The organization is aware of the security problems in the region as the conflict in Syria drags on and the civilian population comes under threat from Jihadi groups. However, as the authority responsible for that part of the country, it is the role of the PYD to ensure basic freedoms, including freedom of information, are respected.
