By Deniz Serinci  – 5.5.2015 – COPENHAGEN, Denmark – International media watchdog Reporters Without Borders has accused the Democratic Union Party (PYD), which controls Syria’s Kurdish Regions (Rojava), of disrespecting freedom of speech and arresting journalists in Syrian Kurdistan. “The PYD and its henchmen have no qualms about arresting or even abducting news and information providers whom they see as too critical in order to silence them and intimidate the others,” said the France-based international NGO.

Anton Denisov – MOSCOW, May 5 (RIA Novosti) – Russia plans to send the initial batch of the Yakovlev Yak-130 jet trainers to Syria until the end of 2014, with further plans to fully complete the contract for 36 aircraft in 2016, the Kommersant newspaper wrote Monday, citing a source close to Russian arms exporter Rosoboronexport. Damascus will receive nine aircraft until the end of this year, and in the next two years – 12 and 15 respectively, according to the informant.

Testimony of General Ahmed Tlass on the Syrian regime & repression

 April 28, 2014, an interview by François Burgat ( Le Monde website) – :  Born in 1961 in the town of Rastan between Homs and Hama, General Ahmed Tlass graduated from the Police Academy with a doctorate in Political Science. After more than 20 years at the head of the police’s financial division in the governorate of Hama, he was in 2008 appointed Director of the Office of Contracts at the Ministry of the Interior in Damascus. He still held this position when he decided, on the 27th of July 2012, to distance himself from a power whose actions he could no longer accept. He is now a refugee in Amman, Jordan, where he testified to François Burgat, researcher at the CNRS at the Institute for Research and Studies on the Arab and Muslim World, and Principal Investigator for the European Council (ERC)-funded WAFAW program (When Authoritarianism Fails in the Arab World).
