Opposition Commanders Say Foreign Interference Has Split Insurgency

30.5.2014 – eaworldview – Al Jazeera English broadcasts criticism of the course of the insurgency by two commanders, each of whom blame foreign involvement. Riad al-Assad, one of the founders of the Free Syrian Army, says the agendas of the foreign countries have endangered the revolution. Colonel Abdel Jabar al-Okaidi, who resigned as the Aleppo commander of the Supreme Military Council, blames infighting on the influx of foreign money.

30.05.2014 – BasNews, Qamishli – A source close to Qamishli security told a BasNews correspondent that 350 ballot boxes have been sent from Damascus to Qamishli Airport, in addition to 70 ballot boxes that have been sent to Hasakkah city for the Syrian presidential election, which is expected to be held on June 3.

28 May 2014 –  Syrian opposition forces have won a number of significant military victories in Idlib governorate in recent days. These notable gains have been focused along an area that hugs the strategically important M5 international highway, south of the town of Maarat al-Numan and north of the border with Hama governorate. The village of Kafr Basin was captured on May 23rd; a major army refueling base, known as Hazj (or checkpoint) Khazanat was taken on May 25th; followed shortly thereafter by the seizure of Hajz al-Salaam and the town of Khan Shaykhun on May 26th.

Even for those who were aware of the risks of manifesting dissent it was difficult to imagine the extent of violence and repression used by the regime in the past three years. However, perhaps the most painful thing for Syrian citizens to acknowledge was the international indifference to the suffering of the Syrian people and the lack of solidarity regarding what has unavoidably become a global issue.
