Was halten Sie davon?

MESOP : Kobane under siege: Syria Kurds resort to smugglers

June 2, 2014 – ARA News – Kobane, Syria – The three-year crisis and the siege imposed by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) on the city of Kobane (also known as Ain al-Arab) in northern Syria created unexpected social, economic and political conditions in Kobane. The crisis, which forced many people to escape, had its great impact on people who stayed, either because they do not want to leave or are not able to migrate.According to observers, these people started to resort to “bizarre” or sometimes “illegal” economic methods to survive.

THE GERMAN KURDISH CHAPTER Syrien: Umfrage: Mehrheit syrischer Flüchtlinge hält Wahl für unrechtmäßig

(MESOP)

TODAY’S MESOP EDITORIAL : If two people quarrel rejoices the third !

The Syrian Kurds tried to play a neutral role to control as much as territory as possible and benefited from the ongoing civil war in the rest of the country. The Democratic Union Party (PYD) affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) managed to become the dominant actor on the ground due to the influx of experienced PKK fighters that trained Syrian Kurds, grassroots supporters, and organizational networks. Moreover, while Assad and his opponents fought each other for power in the rest of Syria, the PYD managed to cement its control over three Kurdish enclaves in the country’s north. http://www.atlanticcouncil.org/blogs/menasource/the-kurds-and-the-future-of-assad

The Kurds & the Future of Assad / By Wladimir van Wilgenburg

Atlantic Council 2.6.2014 – President Bashar al-Assad’s recent victories in Aleppo, Homs, and Damascus could pose a threat to Kurdish gains in the future. In the run-up to the Syrian presidential elections taking place on June 3, clashes increased between Kurds and government. If the stalemate continues, the Kurds will benefit, but if one side wins—either Assad, or the fragmented opposition—the Kurds will have to make difficult choices.

A Dangerous Method: Syria, Sy Hersh, & the Art of Mass-crime Revisionism by Muhammad Idrees Ahmad

MESOP RECOMMENDATION : THE MOST ACCURATE BOOK ON ASSAD’S MASS CRIME

Did Sy Hersh aid Syria with unprofessional journalism?

June 1st, 2014 – LOS ANGELES REVIEW OF BOOKS – ON THE DAY the London Review of Books published a widely circulated article by veteran journalist Seymour Hersh exonerating the Syrian regime for last year’s chemical attack, 118 Syrians, including 19 children, died in aerial bombing and artillery fire. Only the regime has planes and heavy ordnance.

MESOP RESEARCH : Dynamic Stalemate: Surveying Syria’s Military Landscape

By: Charles Lister – Brookings – Policy Briefing | May 19, 2014 – The Syrian uprising has changed significantly since the first signs of localized armed resistance began emerging in late April 2011. Western states and regional countries opposed to President Assad’s rule failed to manage the formation of an organized and representative political and military opposition body over the past three years. Instead, fragmentation of first the opposition, and then the conflict as a whole, has come to pose numerous serious threats to regional and international security and stability.

MESOP : DIE WAHLFARCE IN SYRIEN & DER LIBANON

THE GERMAN KURDISH CHAPTER – HEINRICH VON ARABIEN / NACHRICHTEN AUS DEM NAHEN OST & NORDAFRIKA (Boell Stiftung)

MESOP SPECIAL : A monstrous hoax / Seymour Hersh & Others

Syria :  How Chemical Weapons “Journalism” Supports Assad’s War

By Scott Lucas June 2, 2014 08:27 Updated – eaworldview – In April, we featured a series of articles dissecting the claims of journalist Seymour Hersh — noted for his revelations about the My Lai massacre in the Vietnam War — that insurgents, supported by Turkey, had carried out last August’s chemical weapons attacks near Damascus.

We took apart Hersh’s supposed evidence, worked through information he had ignored or distorted, and exposed his sources. We explained how his reporting and related assertions by journalist Gareth Porter supported and, were shaped by the propaganda and disinformation line set by Russia just after the attacks.
