Mustafa Juma: Syrian Opposition Accepts Kurdish Rights

Mustafa Juma, a politburo member of the new Kurdistan Democratic Party of Syria (KDPS), says that the Syrian opposition accepts Kurdish rights after the fall of Bashar al-Assad. Juma, who was the leader of the Syrian Kurdish Azadi (freedom) party until it merged into the KDPS with three other groups in April, claims that KDPS has thousands of trained fighters, and “soon will be stronger” than the Democratic Union Party (PYD), the dominant force in Rojava (Syrian Kurdistan).

Aleppo struggles under barrels of death / No Protest & Demonstration in the West at all

July 22, 2014 –  ARA News – Aleppo, Syria – At least three civilians were reportedly killed and several others injured on Monday, due to an aerial bombardment by the pro-regime air force on al-Sukkari neighbourhood in Aleppo, northern Syria. Speaking to ARA News from Aleppo, activist Imad Hussein said that the pro-regime helicopters targeted the residential buildings in the neighbourhood with two explosive barrels, killing three children and wounding several others, who were partially transferred to field hospitals in the city, while the rest were taken to the Turkish territory.

President Assad’s forces and the jihadist Islamic State have met in their first one-on-one ground battle in the 40-month Syrian conflict.The pro-regime Al-Watan, citing a “military source”, wrote on Sunday of fighting over the al-Shaer gas field in the Palmyra district of central Syria.The Islamic State, which already has control of oilfields in eastern Syria, moved into al-Sha’er last Thursday, killing scores of guards — a propaganda statement by the jihadist showed photos of 72 bodies. Syrian forces secured a nearby oilfield and counter-attacked on Friday.

Conscription Law: PYD calls on Syria Kurds to ‘defend dignity’

MESOP : Forced recruitment is human rights violation

July 19, 2014 – ARA News – Kilis, Turkey – A “conscription law” was ratified earlier this week by the legislative council of the Auto-Administration in northeastern Syria (led by the Democratic Union Party “PYD” and other allied parties.The law stipulates “the duty of self-defence in the Syrian areas which falls under the rule of the “Democratic Auto-Administration”.  The law obliges families living in the region to send one of their 18-30 year-old members to the defence duty, which lasts for six months, either continuously or intermittently over one year time. Exempting the “disabled or sick” was mentioned in the law as well as exempting families whose members have earlier joined the PYD-linked forces of the Assayish, the Kurdistani Liberation Movement (KCK), the Popular Protection Units (YPG) or Women Protection Units (YPJ). The law stipulates some penalties in case of “non-adherence”.

MESOP : “GENEVA CALL” AN ORGANISATION NEAR TO PKK – Syrian Kurdish Forces Demobilize Child Soldiers

11/7/2014 – By Carl Drott & Alexandra Di Stefano Pironti – RUDAW – STOCKHOLM, Sweden – Syrian Kurdish forces have demobilized 149 children from their ranks and have signed a commitment to protect children in armed conflict, according to Geneva Call, an NGO  that protects child soldiers.The Swiss NGO said the children had been removed from the ranks of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) and Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), the military wings of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) which has declared autonomy in Syria’s Kurdish regions (Rojava). The PYD is an affiliate of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) guerrilla movement.

Pentagon Outlines Plan to Aid Syrian Rebels

U.S. military officials gave a closed-door briefing to Congress on a plan to train and equip Syrian rebels, which calls for a 2,300-man force and likely would not begin until next year (WSJ). However, Pentagon officials said the proposal was still evolving. Meanwhile, Syrian president Bashar al-Assad was sworn in Wednesday for an additional seven-year term (Daily Star).
