MESOPOTAMIA NEWS : ERDOGAN’S GHOST TOWNS IN KURDISTAN
Silvan is abandoned and deserted Nurcan Baysal AHVAL NEWS – May 09 2021
It’s hard to believe that five and half years have passed since my last visit to Silvan in Diyarbakır.
We had gathered together some aid on the morning of Nov. 28, 2015 and headed to the city with a few activists. It was in ruins. While out visiting some local families, Fırat Anlı, who was the co-mayor of Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality at that time, called to tell me that Tahir Elçi had been killed and that he was in the morgue. Everything has been a disaster ever since.
Five and a half years later, I’m back. Some of the houses damaged in the period from 2015 to 2016 were repaired, very few of them were demolished. Local people reveal the government has granted them 5,000 to 20,000 Turkish liras in aid. As everywhere, agriculture and animal husbandry have decreased. There are seven or eight garment workshops. Most people find seasonal or daily work.
MESOPOTAMIA NEWS PKK LEADERSHIP STATEMENT : Bounty Hunting Can Have No Place in US Policy Towards the Kurds
On April 14, 2021, it was reported that the US Ambassador to Ankara, Mr David M Satterfield, posted a statement on his Twitter account announcing that the United States was offering a $12 million reward to persons who could provide information leading to the arrest of Kurdish leaders Cemil Bayık, Murat Karayılan and Duran Kalkan.
To offer such a reward is akin to placing a bounty on a person’s head and, as such, is more akin to the Wild West than the considered diplomacy that one would expect from a democratic state of the modern era. Some would even describe it as a practise reminiscent of the Middle Ages.

The Guerrilla Defends all of Kurdistan – KCK Statement
The genocidal, fascist AKP-MHP government has been carrying out an occupation attack against the Medya Defense Zones for 13 days now. Its goal is to crush the Kurdish Freedom Movement and finalize its policy of genocide. The HPG and YJA STAR guerrillas are putting up a historic resistance against this genocidal and fascist attack. From the very beginning of the attacks until now, the guerrilla has been dealing one blow after another to the occupying forces. It is waging a war against the genocidal attacks – a war for the existence and free life of the Kurdish people. We would like to commemorate our friends who have fallen martyr during the `Hawks of Zagros` and `Xabur War` offensive. And we would like to congratulate all guerrillas and their commanders – who are walking in the footsteps of our commander Agit and all martyrs – on their success. We strongly believe in the success of their struggle and send them our greetings full of love.

(April 22, 2021 / JNS) Two days before a Syrian surface-to-air missile flew into southern Israel in response to reported Israeli airstrikes on targets in the Damascus area, two suspicious Iranian cargo planes landed at Damascus International Airport, likely carrying advanced weapons, a former IDF intelligence officer has told JNS.
Early on Thursday morning, international media reports said that the Israeli Air Force hit a number of unknown targets in Syria, which triggered a Syrian SA-5 surface-to-air missile battery to fire on the Israeli aircraft.
Maj. (res.) - Ahval – Apr 22 2021 02:32 Gmt+3 – Turks fear they may have lost hundreds of millions of dollars in cryptocurrency investments after Fodex, a local trading platform, suspended operations and its CEO allegedly flew out of the country.
Users of the exchange have filed complaints with the Turkish authorities alleging fraud. The company’s platform is inaccessible and prosecutors in Istanbul have started an investigation, the state-run Anadolu news agency reported on Thursday.
Turks have been buying cryptocurrencies in record amounts to help boost returns from their savings after the lira lost about half of its value against the dollar since a currency crisis in 2018 and inflation surged to over 16 percent.
Fodex has 400,000 users, 350,000 of whom are active, said Abdullah Üsame Ceran, a lawyer who has filed a criminal complaint against Fatih Faruk Özer, the founder and CEO, alleging “aggravated fraud”, Anadolu said.
