ANF REDAKTION Dienstag, 4 Jul 2019, 16:39 In einer mit „Vereinte Rachemilizen der Völker“ (Halkların Birleşik İntikam Milisleri, HBİM) unterschriebenen Erklärung bekennt sich die Gruppe zu einer Sabotageaktion gegen den Türkei-Tourismus in Izmir: „Wir haben am 1. Juli eine Sabotageaktion gegen das Hotel Grand Efe und die umliegenden Hotels in Özdere durchgeführt. Als Ergebnis dieser Aktion wurden zwei Hotels geleert.“

Istanbul – Positive Nachrichten ist man von den türkischen Finanzmärkten kaum noch gewohnt, umso mehr überraschen die jüngsten Daten, die aus dem Land kommen. Die jährliche Inflationsrate ist in der Türkei im Juni auf 15,72 Prozent gesunken, wie das türkische Statistikamt Tüik am Mittwoch bekanntgab.
Das ist der niedrigste Wert seit elf Monaten. Von der Nachrichten-Agentur Bloomberg befragte Ökonomen hatten mit einem Anstieg von 16,1 Prozent gerechnet.

Turkey’s purchase of a Russian S-400 air defense missile system has raised questions concerning Turkey’s alliance with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the country’s future intentions. Nonetheless, a break with NATO is unlikely, as alliance dependence is still applicable for both Turkey and other members. Turkish government circles have cast the recent purchase as a means to gain more autonomy from and/or better bargaining power with Western allies. However, the purchase of S‑400s will not bring about the desired outcomes. Instead, it will generate a dual dependency characterized by vulnerability to Russia and an increased need for assurances from NATO.

Portfolios held by Qatari investors totaled about 10.2 billion Turkish liras ($1.8 billion) in May, decreasing more than 30% from 14.7 billion liras ($2.5 billion) in December.

On June 24, Soner Cagaptay, Lisel Hintz, Kemal Kirisci, and Alan Makovsky addressed a Policy Forum at The Washington Institute. Cagaptay is the Institute’s Beyer Family Fellow and director of its Turkish Research Program. Hintz is an assistant professor of international relations and European studies at John Hopkins University’s School of Advanced Studies. Kirisci is the TUSIAD senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, where he directs the Center on the United States and Europe’s Turkey Project.
