12 June 2021 : Intense fighting and renewed diplomatic efforts as the Turkish attacks on South Kurdistan continue:

  • There have again been reports that Islamist mercenaries are being deployed by Turkey in South Kurdistan. They are being transferred from Libya, Azerbaijan and Syria via Amman (Jordan). From there, planes take the Islamist mercenaries directly to Erbil Airport in South Kurdistan. Then, they are being deployed to the area Haji Omeran in the Soran region and to the surrounding area of Dohuk in the Behdinan region. Upon their arrival in Erbil, members of the MIT (Turkish secret service) and the KDP organize their deployment. The Islamist mercenaries are being dressed in military uniforms of KDP-forces in order to avoid them being recognized.
  • In an interview on June 10, the commander of the HPG (People`s Defense Forces) Central Command, Murat Karayilan,
  • rejected the accusations that PKK forces had attacked Peshmerga forces and called for a dialogue between all Kurdish parties. He stated that an inter-Kurdish conflict would not be in the interest of the PKK. Karayilan also talked about a delegation that met with PKK representatives a few months ago and passed on a message from the Turkish president Erdogan. According to Karayilan, Erdogan had asked for a ceasefire in North Kurdistan (southeast Turkey).
  • According to reports by the HPG, on June 7, the Turkish army has launched a renewed offensive in the Avasin region in South Kurdistan. The heavy attacks of the Turkish army were met by a fierce resistance of the HPG guerrilla in the area. 12 Turkish soldiers have been killed and three more wounded as a result of the heavy clashes. The fighting is still continuing.
  • A video of the deployment of KDP-forces to areas controlled by the HPG guerrilla in the Metina region shows that German weapons are being used by the KDP-forces for their attacks. In the video a German military vehicle (model: Allschutz-Transport-Fahrzeug (ATF) Dingo) is clearly visible.

MESOPOTAMIA NEWS SPECIAL : Inside the palace intrigue in Jordan and a thwarted ‘deal of the century’

Opinion by David Ignatius Columnist – June 11, 2021 – THE WASHINGTON POST

President Donald Trump had a dizzying dream for a diplomatic “deal of the century” for Arab-Israeli peace that would unite his allies Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

It never happened, in large part because Jordan’s King Abdullah II would not bend to pressure and make concessions on the status of Jerusalem and other issues affecting the Palestinians. His resistance came at a price: Abdullah’s kingdom has been shaken by tremors over the past several years, encouraged by the squeeze from top political leaders in the United States, Israel and Saudi Arabia.

Abdullah’s troubles erupted into public view in early April, when the king’s security forces detained three prominent Jordanians he suspected of plotting to destabilize his regime: Prince Hamzah, the former crown prince groomed by his American-born mother for the throne; Sharif Hassan bin Zaid, a relative of the king and a powerful tribal leader; and Bassem Awadallah, a former Jordanian minister who had become a confidant of the Saudi crown prince, who’s often known by his initials, MBS.

A Jordanian prosecutor referred charges against bin Zaid and Awadallah to the State Security Court on June 2, but the details weren’t disclosed publicly.

MESOPOTAMIA NEWS : America Is Not Ready for a War With China

How to Get the Pentagon to Focus on the Real Threats

By Michael Beckley – FOREIGN AFFAIRS – June 10, 2021

The United States has spent $19 trillion on its military since the end of the Cold War. That is $16 trillion more than China spent and nearly as much as the rest of the world combined spent during the same period. Yet many experts think that the United States is about to lose a devastating war. In March, Admiral Philip Davidson, then the commander of U.S. forces in the Indo-Pacific, warned that within the next six years, China’s military will “overmatch” that of the United States and will “forcibly change the status quo” in East Asia. Back in 2019, a former Pentagon official claimed that the U.S. military routinely “gets its ass handed to it” in war games simulating combat with China. Meanwhile, many analysts and researchers have concluded that if China chose to conquer Taiwan, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) could cripple whatever U.S. forces tried to stand in its way.

MESOPOTAMIA NEWS THE OTHER WAY ROUND: Two former Israeli ambassadors to South Africa join tsunami of ‘apartheid’ accusations against Israel

“It is time for the world to recognize that what we saw in South Africa decades ago is happening in Palestine… time for the world to take decisive diplomatic action… towards building a future of equality.”

By Philip Weiss June 8, 2021   MONDOWEISS MAGAZINE

The news today is that two former Israeli ambassadors to South Africa have accused their country of practicing apartheid by creating bantustans for Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza. “It’s apartheid, say Israeli ambassadors to South Africa,” Ilan Baruch and Alon Liel write at Groundup.

This is yet another apartheid charge leveled by serious people in what Al Haq has said is the “mounting recognition” and “mainstreaming of the legal analysis of apartheid over the Palestinian people as a whole.”

MESOPOTAMIA NEWS : Russia Puts An Optimistic Face On Chinese Pledge To Aid Assad’s Syria

June 8, 2021 MEMRI – China | Special Dispatch No. 9383

When Chinese President Xi Jinping coupled his congratulations to Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad upon his reelection with pledges of economic support for Syria, he placed Russia in a quandary. On the one hand, Russia is interested in economic assistance to Syria, because it realizes that the situation in Syria will remain tenuous unless the Syrian economy is revitalized. As the West wants no part of Assad, China is a country with tons of spare cash. However, Russia has witnessed Chinese penetration of countries that it regarded as lying within its zone of influence, such as former Soviet Republics or traditional allies such as Serbia.[1] If this pattern were to repeat itself in Syria, it would be highly embarrassing, as Russia hoped to recoup its military investment in Syria with lucrative contracts in Syria’s reconstruction. The expert interviewees in an article by Gazeta.ru’s correspondent Lydia Misnik prefer to speak of cooperation between Russia and China, but they still acknowledge the likelihood of Chinese investments in the Syrian petroleum industry and the appearance of private Chinese military contractors – two areas that would put the Chinese in competition with Russia. Misnik’s article follows below:[2]

MESOPOTAMIA NEWS : ISLAMIC-MAFIOTIC TURKEY – Is Turkey run by gangsters?

Prof Ryan Gingeras – WAR ON THE ROCKS

  • Ahval Jun 07 2021 11:13 Gmt+3 – Last Updated On: Jun 08 2021  – The video confessions of an exiled Turkish mafia boss and the furore they have excited are signs that mafia politics have returned to Turkey, Dr. Ryan Gingeras wrote in an article for War on the Rocks on Monday.

According to Gingeras, an expert on Turkey’s history and relationships with organised crime, the controversies launched by mobster Sedat Peker and his accusations against Turkish officials should be no surprise, even as they constitute “an absurd series of events” that make warnings on the awakening of dormant mafia structures “appear prophetic”.

The influence of the mafia on Turkish politics goes at least as far back as the 1970s, Gingeras said, and Peker has been involved in much of this history.
