MESOPOTAMIA NEWS : PKK/PYD STOPPING FUEL DELIVERY TO ASSAD – (WITH AN “OK” BY US)

One month since Autonomous Administration stopped fuel supplies to Syrian regime – By Enab Baladi –  27/02/2021 It has been a month since northeast Syria’s Kurdish-led Autonomous Administration stopped sending petroleum tank trucks to the Syrian regime-held areas, despite the de-escalation of tensions between the two sides.

Enab Baladi has learned from a worker (who spoke on the condition of anonymity for security reasons) in the oil fields of Rmelan, controlled by the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), that the administration has suspended the sale and supply of oil products to the Syrian regime since 29 January. The areas under the control of the Syrian government used to obtain about 130 oil tanks from the Rmelan oil field and 50 tanks from the field of al-Shaddadi on a daily basis.

MESOPOTAMIA NEWS FOCUS : Erdoğan uses Turkey’s biggest lender to acquire GSM giant – report

Feb 26 2021 10:50 Gmt+3 AHVAL NEWS – : Feb 27 2021 07:50 Gmt+3

Turkey’s state-owned Ziraat Bank and largest GSM operator Turkcell, which are fully and partially owned by Turkey’s Wealth Fund respectively, are at the centre of a scandal involving questionable offshore deals, conflicts of interests and irregular transactions, Foundation for Defense of Democracies Turkey Program Director Aykan Erdemir wrote on Friday.

Erdemir cited news reports that Ziraat extended a $1.6 billion nonperforming loan to an offshore company in the British Virgin Islands, “likely under the direction of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan”.

The Wealth Fund, with Erdoğan himself at the helm, used Ziraat Bank “to disappear a nonperforming loan” used for the purchase of Turkcell, Erdemir said.

Turkcell is a strategic asset in controlling communications throughout Turkey as the most used operator with the strongest coverage network. In January, Erdoğan urged the use of Turkcell’s proprietary instant messaging app BiP as he spoke against WhatsApp, which is owned by Facebook.

MESOPOTAMIA NEWS ANALYSIS : Iran has already beaten Biden

Pulling defeat from the jaws of defeat / THE SPECTATOR USA

February 26, 2021 | 2:53 pm – Shiite fighters from the Hashed al-Shaabi flash the sign for victory as they enter the village of Abu Shuwayhah, 2016  –

Written by: Dominic Green – THE SPECTATOR

The Biden administration is trying to set some rules in its negotiations about negotiations with Iran. But the first rule of the Middle East is that there are no rules. There are only balances of force and fear. And this is why Iran will defeat the US in Syria just as it has already defeated the US in Iraq.

Like a tourist in a foreign restaurant, the administration knows just enough of the local lingo to order the wrong thing. After years in the region, American strategists have absorbed the crude calculus of force: to be taken seriously, they reason, we have to respond to the rocket attack on an airbase in northern Iraq earlier this month, which killed a military contractor and wounded a US serviceman.

The US has also absorbed the calculus of fear. Much as America’s politicians and generals pretend otherwise, the US was defeated in Iraq years ago. The winner was Iran and its Shia allies.

MESOPOTAMIA NEWS : JOE BIDEN –  HELPLESS ! – US Intelligence & the Dilemma of Iran

By Erfan Fard February 26, 2021 – Erfan Fard is a counterterrorism analyst and Middle East Studies researcher based in Washington, DC

BESA Center Perspectives Paper No. 1,944, February 26, 2021 – EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The rogue regime in Tehran is the primary source of turmoil and instability in the Middle East. The regime thirsts for ever more dominance across the region and beyond and employs a terrorist network to achieve that goal, even as it continues to move aggressively in its pursuit of nuclear weapons. The threat of Iran, combined with the withdrawal of US forces from Iraq and Syria, has prompted the creation of an anti-Iran coalition. It is now up to the Biden administration, which has no desire to become involved in a military conflict with Iran, to determine the best course of action in dealing with a regime that persistently challenges all accepted norms of behavior.

MESOPOTAMIA NEWS INSIGHT SYRIA-KURDISTAN : Ibrahim Sheikho: “New York Times” tries to legitimize Turkish occupation of Afrin

The official spokesman for the Human Rights Organization Afrin-Syria, Ibrahim Sheikho, said, “The American New York Times is complicit with the Turkish occupation in legitimizing its occupation of Afrin,” indicating that Turkey has bought it off as well as another Spanish newspaper, similar to what it did previously with the International Weapons Prohibition Organization when its army used chemical weapons in Serekaniye/ Ras al-Ain.

NEWS 26 Feb 2021, Fri – 12:17 2021-02 AL-SHAHBA – LINDA SHEIKH  – ANF

On February 18, the American New York Times published a report in English on the city of Afrin, which has been occupied since March 2018 by the Turkish occupation army, in which it justified the crimes committed by the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries, and legitimized their occupation of the city, through its interviews with the mercenary factions of the Turkish occupation and the settlers inside Afrin, who accused the original residents of Afrin of terrorism.

MESOPOTAMIA NEWS : JOE BIDEN’S GREAT FAVOR TO IRANIAN MULLAHS

BALANCING ACT: BIDEN MUST REDEFINE THE US-SAUDI RELATIONSHIP
by Dennis Ross and Robert Satloff  – The Hill – February 25, 2021

The administration’s instinct to cancel Riyadh’s blank check is right, but engaging a flawed partner is not the same as confronting a determined adversary.

The expected release of a declassified intelligence report that will probably conclude with “moderate confidence” that Saudi crown prince Muhammad bin Salman—known as MbS—ordered the killing of Washington Post contributor Jamal Khashoggi is sure to heighten anger with the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. How the Biden administration responds will have huge ramifications for its broader Middle East policy. The U.S.-Saudi relationship is a classic case in which Washington has had to reconcile concerns, needs and interests. For more than 70 years, there was a basic bargain: We provide the Saudis security, they provide a stable oil market and support against common adversaries. But with the waning of our dependence on Middle East oil and our growing fatigue with regional conflicts, this relationship has come under much greater scrutiny…

MESOPOTAMIA NEWS : U.S. monitoring attempts to overturn will of Turkish voters

  • Ilhan Tanir –  Feb 22 2021 05:47 Gmt+3  AHVAL NEWS  – The U.S. administration has said it is monitoring attempts to strip pro-Kurdish lawmakers of parliamentary immunity.

A U.S. State Department spokesperson told Ahval that the United States is “aware” of recent Turkish government requests to lift the parliamentary immunities of nine lawmakers from the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) and is “monitoring the situation”.

The nine lawmakers, including co-chair Pervin Buldan are accused of allegedly inciting the street protests in 2014, in response to the seemingly anti-Kurdish policy of the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan when the Islamic State (ISIS) militias besieged the northeast Syrian Kurdish-majority city of Kobane.

“The United States continues to closely watch any attempts to overturn the will of the voters including through legal proceedings,” the statement to Ahval said, noting that the legislators in question were elected in 2018.

MESOPOTAMIA NEWS : Russia to deploy nuclear bombers to Syria to strengthen presence in region

According to reports in the Russian media, the planes will be deployed to Russia’s Hmeimim airbase next to Latakia in the west of the country, threateningly close to Europe. The base itself will be modernized accordingly

Mandi Kogosowski | 16/02/2021 ISRAEL DEFENSE – As part of the Russian strategy for strengthening its presence in Syria, Moscow is to deploy nuclear bombers to its airbase next to Latakia in the west of the country, according to a report by the Russian daily Nezavisimaya Gazeta.

According to the article, which was quoted by Middle East Monitor, Russia is modernizing the base and rebuilding the runway so it can be used for takeoffs and landings by strategic long-range bombers capable of carrying nuclear weapons.

American analyst Joseph Trevithick from the GlobalSecurity.org thinktank told the newspaper that “The Hmeimim base is an important tool for the Russian presence in Syria, and it is more correct to say here that Russia is trying to expand its geopolitical and military influence to include the entire Mediterranean.”
