MESOP : SYRIA – THE MASSACRE CONTINUES : Hours After “Truce”, Regime’s Missiles Kill Dozens in Idlib

13 June 2016 – Scott Lucas – eaworldview – The Assad regime’s warplanes killed dozens of people on Sunday in a vegetable market in Idlib in northwest Syria, hours after a truce covering the city.On Saturday the regime and the opposition had agreed a ceasefire for Idlib, the besieged opposition-held town of Zabadani in Damascus Province, and the regime enclaves of al-Fu’ah and Kafraya north of Idlib. However, two missiles hit the Idlib market yesterday, killing at least 34 people and wounding more than 50.

Rescuers pull a dead child from the rubble:Russia and the Assad regime have stepped up airstrikes across northwest Syria, particular in Aleppo and Idlib Provinces, this spring. Two weeks ago, dozens of people were slain and about 250 injured in bombing near the National Hospital in the city.

The Local Coordination Committees documented the deaths of 80 people across Syria on Sunday, including 49 in Idlib Province. In addition to the Idlib attack, there were strikes on the town of Maarat Nu’man and villages such as Mastoma. Intense airstrikes are also reported by Russian warplanes in Aleppo Province, including the Kallasa area of Aleppo city, Anadan, and Kafr Hamra. Other areas were hit with incendiary and cluster bombs.

The Russian Defense Ministry made no reference to the bombings. Instead it claimed that the ceasefire — “the silence regime” — was violated four times on Sunday by rebels in Damascus Province. Meanwhile the Assad regime bombed Douma, northeast of Damascus, on Monday morning: www.mesop.de
