MESOP : PKK – AGGRESSOR AGAINST KURDISH UNITY

PKK Planning to Establish Raparrin Canton in Northern Sulaymaniyah Province / Gorran is allegedly cooperating with PKK to establish a separate administration outside the control of KRG

Hemin Salih – 1 March 2016 – SULAYMANIYAH — Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), in cooperation with Gorran (Change Movement), is allegedly planning to establish a separate canton in Raparrin area of Sulaymaniyah province.

A source, speaking on condition of anonymity, claimed to BasNews that PKK is attempting to exploit the current financial crisis in the Kurdistan Region to gain people’s support for establishing a separate canton in Raniya and Qaladize areas. The party has allegedly deployed more than 500 guerrillas to the area and held meetings with locals, ensuring them that PKK will militarily support an uprising against the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in Raparrin area.

BasNews previously reported that Qadir Haji Ali, a senior Gorran official, had visited Qandil and sought PKK’s support for bringing Sulaymaniyah province under the full control of Gorran; but the request was not responded immediately.According to the source, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) has warned both PKK and Gorran. “It has also deployed military forces to the area to standby for any eventuality.”

Member of Kurdistan Region Parliament Maryam Samad told BasNews that KRG must meet demands of the people and find a solution to the acute financial crisis in the region; “but it does not mean an uprising or standing against KRG can improve the situation,” MP Samad asserted.Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) official in Raparrin area, Najat Hasan, believes that PKK has no right to interfere in KRG’s internal affairs, and it must focus on the Turkish Kurdistan instead.Hasan confirmed that PKK has recently held meetings with locals in Raparrin area, encouraging them to support PKK’s plan for establishing a canton outside the authority of KRG. However, Babakr Drayi, a Gorran official, rejected the allegations and stated that there is no such agreement between Gorran and PKK. www.mesop.de
