Qasim Sulaimani Commands Jalawla & Saadia Clashes / Shiite Militia groups stop Peshmerga forces entering Saadia

23 Nov 2014 – Basnews  |  Nuwar Faqie – KIRKUK – Iraqi Peshmerga forces, along with the Iraqi army and Shiite militia groups, have been advancing through the strategic town of Jalawla in Diyala Province, northern Iraq since early Sunday morning.

Sources from the Peshmerga have told BasNews that the Sunday operation in Jalawla and Saadia was led by Iranian General Qasim Sulaimani, the head of Al Quds unit, and Hadi al-Amiri, the leader of the Shiite Badr Brigade. The Peshmerga source said that Peshmerga forces and the Iraqi army attacked Islamic State militants from four fronts in Jalawla. However, the Peshmerga commander told BasNews that on the Saadia front line, the Shiite militia group wouldn’t let Peshmerga forces enter the towns, which have been under the control of the extremist group since early August. The commander said that only the Iraqi army and Shiite militia groups have entered Saadia. BasNews understands that, aside from Peshmerga forces and the Iraqi army, a number of Shiite Militia groups, Iranian army soldiers and Kurdish Workers’ Party (PKK) guerillas were involved in Sunday’s clashes in Jalawla and Saadia. So far 6 Peshmerga soldiers have been killed and seven Kurdish soldiers from the Iraqi army. 32 others have been injured. “We have captured two IS tanks and only a handful of Jalawla neighborhoods are left to be cleared of the extremists,’ said the anonymous Peshmerga commander from inside Jalawla. A health official from the Kurdish town of Kalar north of Jalawla told BasNews that the majority of the injured Peshmerga have been transferred to Kalar emergency hospital. The hospital is short of blood supplies and is calling on residents to donate blood for the wounded fighters. The Kurdish towns of Jalawla and Saadia have been under the control of Islamic State group since August 9th and They have blown up almost all the governmental buildings in the two towns.
