MESOP FOCUS : KDP closes 8 pro-PKK offices in Kurdistan Region
20.5.2014 – BasNews – Kurdistan Region’s ruling Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) ordered shutting 8 offices of parties and organizations close to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the Kurdish region, Dicle said in a report.Dispute between the two parties escalated after the pro-PKK Democratic Union Party (PYD) expelled from Syria Kurdish regions party leaders close to the KDP.
The shutting of the offices came a day after a pro-PKK rally in Erbil, the capital of Kurdistan Region, accused the KDP of killing a number of PKK members in an Erbil hospital in 1997. Releasing a statement, Erbil Governorate blamed the rally and called it an attempt to disgrace the KDP. Kurdistan security forces then sealed doors of the pro-PKK offices in Erbil, Zakho and Dohuk. The report added a number of activists have been detained hours after the rally and there is no information about the fate of eight activists.
