Meeting between PYD, ISIS & Assad
15.04.2014 – Shwan Barzinji – BasNews, Erbil – According to an anonymous source the representatives of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) and the Syrian Regime held a meeting close to Qamishli, Syria.
The source explained that all three sides have agreed to call a ceasefire as well as the withdrawal of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) from Arab villages and return control of the villages to the Assad regime. Kurdistan Democratic Party – Syria (KDP-S) spokesman Mohammed Ismael told BasNews that an agreement has been made between the PYD and the Syrian Regime but that it is not in the interest of the Kurds. Regarding the meeting Ismail said: “ISIS fights in Syria but Assad often uses this terrorist group for his interests. Therefore, if there is any agreement between them, it will be dangerous for Kurds.”
He also noted that there are troops in Syrian Kurdistan that belong to Assad’s regime, especially in Qamishli, Hassakk, Derk and Rumelan. “The presence of Assad’s troops in Syrian Kurdistan is obvious. They have security, oil and financial agreements with the PYD,” added Ismael. PYD official Gharib Haso told BasNews that as far as he is aware, there is no ceasefire between YPG and ISIS. “I am not aware of reports of ISIS declaring a ceasefire. They continue to fight, and I have not heard of any military agreement,” said Haso.
