MESOP MIDEAST NEWS KURDISTAN-IRAK – US, UK, Germany, Netherlands Help Peshmerga with Ongoing Reforms: Official
2.3.2022 ERBIL — The Peshmerga Ministry of Kurdistan Region continues implementing drastic reforms with the support of the US, UK, Germany, and the Netherlands, said an official.
The Peshmerga ministry has long began administrative and military reforms to build a stronger army for the autonomous region. The western allies support the initiative through the Global Coalition to Combat the Islamic State (IS).
Speaking at a conference titled “Peshmerga, the Symbol of a Nation”, Deputy Peshmerga Minister Sarbast Lazgin said the allies are working to help bring the entire Peshmerga forces under the command of the Peshmerga Ministry.
“There have been remarkable progresses in reforms and unification of the Peshmerga forces, and the process is ongoing,” Lazgin added.
Two units of Support Forces and four brigades of Unit 70 and Unit 80 have so far been brought under the command of the ministry with their entire military hardware, and the ground is laid for unification of the remaining brigades in the nearest future.
