MESOP MIDEAST: Turkish Airstrike Targets PKK Member in Syria

23-10-2021 ERBIL -A Turkish drone attack on Saturday targeted a member of the Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) near Kobani, in north of Syria, a source has revealed.

The incident reportedly took place on the highway between Kobani and Sirin where a Turkish drone targeted a civilian vehicle inside of which was also a PKK member, a source familiar with the developments told BasNews.

In addition to the PKK member, the airstrike also resulted in other casualties, the source said, without elaborating on a specific number of people possibility killed or wounded in the attack.

This comes a day after Turkey claimed that it had “neutralized” a senior PKK member in the disputed province of Kirkuk, north of Iraq.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a source told Turkish media outlets that Taybet Bilen (codenamed Shilan Guy) was neutralized alongside two other PKK members in an operation carried out by the Turkish National Intelligence Organization.

State-run Anadolu Agency claimed that Shilan Guy had joined the PKK since 1999, pointing out that she served the Gabar region of Turkey’s southeastern Sirnak province between 2004 and 2007, before she was sent to Syria in 2013.

Earlier on Wednesday, a senior PKK member was among a number of civilians killed in a similar Turkish airstrike in the region.

Turkish authorities often use the word neutralized” in order not to mention whether the PKK members were killed or arrested.
