— One Peshmerga soldier was injured on Wednesday after a roadside bomb laid by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) near Amedi district of Duhok province, hit their vehicle.
Media Center of Kurdistan Region’s Peshmerga Ministry cited Deputy Minister Sarbast Lazgin saying that the bomb was planted on a road also used by civilians in the area.
“We would like to let the public in Kurdistan know that the PKK is repeating the same behavior in the Peshmerga mission areas and causes harm. These behaviors pose a threat to the border areas and spread panic among people,” Lazgin said.

The PKK has several times in the past used bombs and roadside explosives to target the Peshmerga forces inside the Kurdistan Region. On 12 March 2021, a PKK bombing in Sidakan area of Erbil province killed a Peshmerga soldier and injured another.
Earlier this year, after a technical team from the directorate of electricity in Duhok visited Kani Masi area where the public grid had been taken town by the Turkish-PKK conflicts, a PKK bomb hit their vehicle and injured three people.
Besides the bombings, PKK has also attacked the Peshmerga forces with rockets and other heavy weapons. Seven Peshmerga forces were killed and several others were injured in June during different attacks in Amedi and Zakho.

Political commentators believe that the PKK is working to cripple the public service and main roads in the border areas so to force the civilians out and militarize the region, which will help them impose their full power and create a de facto hotbed which challenges the legal and legitimate authority of the Kurdistan Regional Government.
The Kurdistan Region has repeatedly called on both Turkey and PKK to avoid using its territories as the ground for settling their disputes, warning that the irrelevant war to the Kurdistan Region puts the lives of thousands of civilians at stake while the government is faced with extra challenges to deliver better services to its people in the border areas.
