MESOPOTAMIA NEWS : HAPPY KURDISTAN (IRAQ) ? – No Coronavirus Cases Recorded in Kurdistan So Far: Health Minister

Basnews English 29/02/2020 – 16:12 Published in Kurdistan – ERBIL — There has been no cases of coronavirus in Kurdistan Region despite the risks on its borders, according to Health Minister Saman Barzanji.

The minister spoke to reporters during a visit to Sulaymaniyah to inspect the medical precautionary measures there. He said 12 people were suspected of coronavirus infection in the past 24 hours, but they have tested negative.

“There are some other people who will have to take the tests today,” he added.

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has closed down the border crossings with Iran, and put movements at main gates with Iraq under strict monitoring to prevent the spread of the new virus.

The health minister also said that he was satisfied with the effective measures and preparations at hospitals, airports, border crossings, and public places across the Kurdistan Region.
