Turkish reliance on Russia: • Tourism: 7 million Russians visited Turkey, top of the chart • Nuclear cooperation: Akkuyu nuclear reactor built by Russians • Turkish stream pipeline • Turkish exports reaching to $3 billion • Turkey imports 40% of its gas from Russia

3 Febr 2020 The volume of trade between Russia and Turkey in 2019 was $25 billion. The volume of trade between EU and Turkey was $165 billion. The goal to expand Russia-Turkey trade to $100 billion was based on a fantastical view of Russian capacity, which is the size of Spain’s economy

Russia and Turkey can’t afford a conflict in Syria so the current tensions are mostly just boasting and posture because the countries want trade to increase to $100 billion; whereas Turkey has just $5 billion in trade with Iran or Ukraine…so Russia-Turkey alliance to continue

Replying to @APHClarkson and  @sfrantzman

With all the other cards TR is holding, which have a very real potential to politically destabilize EU and weaken its security, I am not sure your assessment on “who is playing the tune” is entirely accurate. #justsaying
