MESOP NEWS : THE PKK/PYD—STALINIST REGIME IN ROJAVA-WEST KURDISTAN SYRIA (III)

Basnews English – 25/03/2017 – SINJAR — Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) fighters continue leaving the party and joining Kurdistan Region’s Peshmerga forces in the Yezidi town of Sinjar and surrounding areas, said a security official.

“The increasing number of the PKK affiliates joining Peshmerga comes after their party launched violent actions against Roj Peshmerga forces [earlier this month] in Khansor subdistrict,” said Qasim Shasho, head of Sinjar Directorate of Security.

He believes that the Yezidi members of PKK have realized that Peshmerga is the only legitimate force in the area to protect the Yezidis. The official however did not specify the number of people who recently joined the Peshmerga forces, but pointed out that the flow continues on a daily basis. Concerning the current situation in Sinjar, Shasho said that security is maintained and the situation is stable. “We are now awaiting for the PKK affiliates to leave the area.” www.mesop.de
