Turkey parliament speaker meets BDP leaders over constitution
MESOP 10.7.2013 – Turkey parliament speaker Cemil Cicek met the leaders of Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) and demanded the party to help government in making changes to the constitution, 7 Haber website said.
Cicek asked BDP support in bringing change to the constitution especially over disputing articles. The BDP leader Selahattin Demirtas and Gultan Kisanak stated the Kurdish people’s demands in the constitution and the later voiced Kurdistan Workers’ Party’s (PKK) worries about the slow process of the peace talks between PKK and Ankara government. Meeting PKK jailed leader Abdullah Ocalan for six times in the recent month, BDP deputy Pervin Buldan, attended in the meeting, announced some Ocalan’s demands from government in the new constitution. Cicek has reportedly received green light from BDP and opposition National Movement Party (MHP) but has not received a clear answer from main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu.
