21.03.2014 – BasNews, Turkey – In a press conference in response to the European Court of Human Rights, Bekir Bozdag, the Turkish Justice Minister, said that a final verdict in the Abdullah Ocalan case had been reached, and that he would never be freed, even with conditions.
The Turkish Justice Ministry said they had not yet received the verdict of the European Court of Human Rights, but would discuss it when it is received.
Bozdag further stated that although Turkey previously canceled the death sentence against Ocalan to demonstrate cooperation with the EU, his sentence would not be reviewed a second time.
Yesterday, the European Court of Human Rights condemned Turkey for neglecting Ocalan’s rights and asked the Turkish authorities to remove his life sentence and free him conditionally. In another development, Murat Karayılan, the Co-chair of Koma Civakên Kurdistan (KCK), a branch of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), said they would not lay down their arms until Ocalan has been freed. Karayılan further said that even if Ocalan requested from prison the KCK to lay down their arms, they would not obey.
