TÜRKEI : Another Attack Against HDP In Tekirdağ

Rojava Report 11-3-2014 – Another racist attack against HDP officials has taken place in the city of Tekirdağ. A number of HDP officials have been injured.

The attack occurred as an HDP election bus was making its way through the city. A racist mob blocked the road as the bus passed in front of a police station in the town’s centrally located market district. The group attacked the bus with stones as the driver of the election bus was taken into custody by police.

The HDP’s candidate for co-mayor of Süleymanpaşa Municipality, Gülay Büyüktaş, was wounded in the attack, along with BDP official Orhan Bal who was struck in the chest by a rock. Police used tear gas to disperse the crowd, however no arrests were made. Following the incident  Büyüktaş is understood to have gone to the Central Police Station in order to lodge an official complaint.

Local HDP co-president Güven has called for a rally to protest the attacks this Wednesday at 17:00 local time in the Çorlu Heykel Square. The attack in Tekirdağ follow a series of attacks against HDP officials and Kurds more generally. Yesterday and today racist mobs attacked a HDP election office and local Kurdish businesses in the resort town of Fethiye on the Mediterranean Coast. According to reports, police encouraged Kurds to leave the city as they could not protect them. According to another article appearing in Özgür Gündem today,  Ertuğrul Kürkçü and Sebahat Tuncel – the co-presidents of the HDP – claimed that the attacks were being ‘centrally organized” and have pledged to take the issue to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe.
