Iran: Independent Kurdistan is Israel’s dream

07.07.2014 – BasNews, Tehran – Iran is opposed to an independent Kurdish state breaking away from Iraq, a senior Iranian official said last Sunday. The Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA) reported that Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Hoseyn Amir-Abdollahian is against Kurdish independence.

’Like the majority of Iraqi people including Shi’ia, Sunni, Arab and Kurds, we will strongly oppose Iraq’s disintegration. We strongly support unity and integrity in Iraq,’ he said.Describing the possible independence of Iraq’s Kurdistan as ’Israel’s dream’ he said: ’We will never let [Israeli Prime Minister] Netanyahu’s dreams [of Iraq’s disintegration] materialize’.

’Speaking about the independence of Iraq’s Kurdistan will result in the return of Kurdistan to some decades ago and we have mentioned this to the officials of the Iraqi Kurdistan,” he added.Amir-Abdollahian called on the leaders of Iraq’s Kurdistan to ’show restraint’, and ’refrain from rushed actions’. ’Protecting the security of Kurdistan requires the unity and integrity of Iraq, concentrating on and cooperating in the battle against terrorism,’ he said. ’Any development or measure that has a terrorist or interventionist nature in Iraq, and impacts the country’s security, can naturally have an impact on the security of the Islamic Republic of Iran,’ the Iranian official added. ’Given the recent position taken by Netanyahu on supporting the Iraqi Kurdistan’s independence, any steps taken in this regard will implement the Zionist regime’s special goals in the region,’ Chairman of the Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi said on Tuesday.
