TODAY’S MESOP OPINION : A VERY DIALECTICAL APPROACH BY KALKAN
Kalkan (PKK) : AKP succeded but did not win
Kalkan said the chauvinist & nationalist line of the CHP led to social fascism & social nationalism
ANF – Behdinan 2-4-2014 – PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party) Executive Council member Duran Kalkan assessed the results of the 30 March’s local elections at a TV program on Sterk TV.
Kalkan said with the elections, North Kurdistan has become an area to be governed by the BDP, adding; “Kurds have manifested their attitude, which politics they support and what they want.”
Kalkan remarked that the BDP has won a significant victory despite all the obstructions and tricks it faced, and the Turkish state’s efforts to hinder the Kurdish democratic politics. He underlined tthat the votes BDP has received constitute one of the most significant results obtained by the Kurdish democratic politics in Kurdistan for over 20 years. According to Kalkan, the result of the elections will also determine the coming political process and have a significant role in the resolution of the Kurdish question.
Kalkan said the Kurdish Freedom Movement will also make an evaluation of the 30 March elections with regards to the potential, targets and results it revealed.
PKK executive said the the Kurdish region would witness a hundred percent success were there no hindrances, pressures and tricks, and emphasized that North Kurdistan has united with the patriotic democratic movement. He also noted that an entire national democratic unity has been established in all the areas inhabited by the Kurdish society. Referring to the results for the HDP (Peoples’ Democratic Party), Kalkan drew attention to the attacks the party has faced since the beginning of the electoral campaigning process. “It is not possible to find the results sufficient, nor to be contented with them. The HDP which faced a counter-campaign supported by the state still revealed a significant result which is the fact that it is a third alternative and politics against the CHP and AKP hegemony.”
Also commenting on the results from the point of the AKP, Kalkan said; “The AKP’s strategy succeeded but it cannot be said that the AKP won the elections. The fact that AKP succeeded at the ballot box doesn’t mean that the intervention against it has been defeated, that its opponents have been eliminated, and that its ruling has been strengthened.”
Referring to PM Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s balcony speech after the announcement of the elections’ results, Kalkan said the PM should have displayed a more democratic and explanatory attitude and addressed the basic problems more openly rather than attacking, repressing and insulting everyone. Kalkan said Erdoğan’s discourses wouldn’t help to come up with a solution to Turkey’s problems, nor to eliminate the current chaos in Turkey and to rule the country.
Kalkan said the CHP and MHP didn’t achieve any success either, and described both parties as the right and left crutches of the AKP.
PKK executive remarked that the republic system doesn’t suffice any more as republic-based governments gave birth to fascism and massacres, and that this system would remain reactionary and fascist unless it united with democracy and a democratic revolution. Kalkan said the chauvinist and nationalist line of the CHP led to social fascism and social nationalism, and a repressive despotic system, adding that the CHP could be a social democrat party only in the event of attaining a democratic perspective and policy and re-arrange itself in line with the principles of democracy.
