SOUTH KURDISTAN (IRAQ) Parliament speaker is responsible for KRG presidency crisis

2 Sept 2015 – MESOP – A Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Deputy in Iraqi parliament and the party’s negotiator in meeting over Kurdistan Region’s presidency accused the region’s parliament Speaker, Yusuf Muhammad Sadiq, for the crisis over the region’s presidency.

Fursat Sufi told Kurdpress that the speaker and the parliament did not fulfill the demand by Kurdistan Region’s President Massoud Barzani who asked the parliament in a letter in 2013 to ratify a law over the presidency of the region and let people to decide about in a referendum but Sadiq did not take any steps and did not make the demand a priority. There was not the present crisis had Sadiq fulfilled the demand. He went on to say that a parliament committee to decide about the crisis was formed a few months before Barzani’s prolonged term was over and it failed to take any concrete steps. Sufi further denied reports that the region’s four other parties that are against prolonging Barzani’s term would boycott the next meeting over the crisis. www.mesop.de
