02/09/2018 – 13:32 –BASNEWS  – ERBIL — The Coalition for Democracy and Justice, led by Barham Salih, will not take part in the upcoming Kurdistan Region’s parliamentary election which is scheduled for 30 September. The decision was announced by Salih at a press conference he held together with Nechirvan Barzani, the prime minister of Kurdistan Region and vice-president for the ruling Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP).

However, Barzani said his party and his cabinet respects the coalition’s decision, but parliamentary elections would be held on time as scheduled.“Technical procedures have been completed almost 95%, and the [electoral] commission is ordered to hold the vote on time,” Barzani said.He reiterated that other political parties discuss the postponement of the election on the social media, and that no faction has submitted a request on the issue to the government which is the only authorised side to put off the polls.

The KDP has recently initiated meetings with all political parties in the Kurdistan Region in hopes of brining all the sides into a united position for the upcoming government in Baghdad.
