SHAME & SCANDAL IN THE BARZANI FAMILY : Kurdistan’s Masrour Barzani imposes conditions on Nechirvan Barzani
April 6, 2014 – Sharpress / knnc.net – : The relationship between Masrour Barzani, son of Kurdistan region president Massoud Barzani, and director of intelligence and security in Iraqi Kurdistan, and his cousin Nechirvan Barzani’s Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) deputy president and the caretaker Kurdistan premier, has been the talk of the Kurdish media lately, especially after it was known that each have their own candidates for the coming Iraqi Parliamentary and Kurdistan region Provincial Elections.
Nawzad Hadi, the current governor of Hewlêr [Erbil], the capital city of the region, is Nechirvan’s candidate for the Kurdistan Provincial Election, while Pishtiwan Sadiq, the KDP Leadership Member is Masrour Barzani’s candidate for the same post. However, Masour gave up on his demand after he was promised to be given the position of Interior Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government as soon as the eighth cabinet is formed, after he realized that Nechirvan will not relinquish on his demand, Sharpress reports.
In a report, NRT TV says that Sadiq has prepared thousands of posters and placards to go viral with Hadi because part of the KDP officials believe that Sadiq deserves to be the governor of Hewlêr and is popular in the city. What was shocking for Masrour supporters though, was that none of the placards were displayed or seen by the public.Meanwhile, Hadi’s placards are seen everywhere in the city especially one specific photo where he holds an engineer’s hat and many building are used in the background of the photo to show his activities in the past period as the governor of Hewlêr.
In the last couple of days, Pishtiwan, who got number 2 in the ranking of the KDP’s list of candidates, in a statement said that he resigned from the list and according to information his resignation was made possible after he was asked by the KDP’s politburo. These two candidates are the strongest candidates of the KDP in Hewlêr, according to the KDP itself. However, Hadi is from Nechirvan’s wing, while Sadiq is from Masrour’s wing. Sharpress says according to the information it gained, each wing was working for its candidate and that has created fear for the KDP officials to negatively influence their votes, therefore the KDP politburo asked Massoud Barzani to decide on this matter and solve their conflicts. Barzani decided on Hadi’s candidacy.
The report adds that Masrour’s insistence on holding the Interior Ministry position for its own wing was one of the reasons behind the delay of the KRG’s cabinet, especially after it was identified that Nechirvan had no objection to give Gorran Movement Interior Ministry. Masrour promised Sadiq to give him Interior Ministry position once KRG’s cabinet is formed.
Masrour’s wing, which is known as the military wing, has created problems for Nechirvan to form KRG’s cabinet particularly through pro- Masrour’s media outlets known as Bas Newspaper and Civil magazine. In a recent post on his official Facebook page, Sadiq says: “people can do many things with money including buy votes, but not everything else.” Barzani invited Sadiq on April 2 but Sadiq has issued no official decision in regards to telling his supporters to vote for which KDP’s candidate. Concerning his resignation, Sadiq only said “There are many factors.” “Reacting to Nechirvan’s projects in the media, especially after the establishment of Rudaw TV, Masrour is now working on establishing a channel called Bas, adding that Masour has been working on a media project for some years and that can be seen in his attempts in establishing Bas Newspaper and website, plus Civil Magazine” the report clarifies.
