SAUDI ARABIA CONTRA QUATAR – Dispute hits National Coalition of Syria
8-1-2014 – Kurdpress – Dispute hits National Coalition of Syria, main opposition body of the country, after 40 members of the body resigned in protest to re-election of its leader Ahmad Asi al- Jarba. Supporters of Jarba’s rival, Riyadh Hijab who enjoys Saudi Arabia’s support, are against Qatari- backed Jarba’s re-election.
40 members, all supporting Hijab, announced their resignation. Efforts are underway to convince the resigned members to return the body. “Dispute and conflicts are bigger than expected. Our main goal is to send a delegation to Geneva II,” a Kurdish member of the opposition body Mona Mustafa told Kurdpress in a special interview. She added the coalition has allowed the resigned members till January 17 to return into the opposition body. If returned, we will decide on attending in Geneva II. “If they remain in their stance other people will displace them and therefore the number of Kurds in the coalition will possibly increase,” she said.
